(1927-2014)

Gabriel García Márquez is one of the most celebrated exponents of Latin American Magic Realism. His works include the novels One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967), Autumn of the Patriarch (1975), Love in the Time of Cholera (1985), and The General in His Labyrinth (1989), as well as many short stories and pieces of reportage. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.

This story, ‘Monologue of Isabel Watching It Rain in Macondo’ (1955), comes from his first collection of stories, Ojos de perro azul [Eyes of a Blue Dog], translated into English by Gregory Rabassa as Leaf Storm and Other Stories in 1972.
